Born at Enfield, Connecticut on February 3, 1809, died September 11, 1879. Apprenticed at the Water Shop of the Springfield Armory in 1829. Master armorer at the Springfield Armory from 1847-1878 In the "Histoire des Armes à Feu du XV au XX siècle" written by Merrill Lindsay it is marked that he would have got a patent in 1865 for alter muzzleloaders to cartridge. Which I now present on my site. Springfield-Allin converted rifles to trapdoor. The 1872 U.S. Army trials where also made in the hope of getting a system better than the Allin. It seems that 99 American and 9 foreign designs were subitted and tested. In difference to the regular Springfield-Allin rifles Allin presented a center hung hammer gun with a mainspring under the receiver.
